Feeling excited about your new silicone cupcake liner? Do you wish to share your newly acquired recipe on the net to your family and friends? Don't get too excited just yet! Silicone cupcake liners are great reusable kitchen tools but like all newly bought kitchen tools, they need to undergo thorough cleaning first before using. Your silicone baking liners are so simple to use, to get started here are the directions for use:

PREPARING YOUR SILICONE CUPCAKE LINERS BEFORE USING

  • Prep your Cupcake Cups by washing them in warm, soapy water and rinse well.
  • Coat the liners with a light layer of non-stick or oil cooking spray. This method of ‘Seasoning’ the liners is optional and is needed the first few times of use.
  • Preheat the oven to desired temperature
  • Mix batter
  • Place Cupcake Cups on to a baking sheet
  • Fill liners 2/3 full with cupcake or muffin mixture to allow them to rise. *Tip! For consistently sized cupcakes or muffins every time scoop the batter with an ice-cream scoop
  • Bake per recipe instructions
  • Remove baking sheet. Silicone bakeware cools quickly, but it will be very hot when you first remove it, so allow to cool.
  • Once cooled peel back the flexible liners
  • Frost, decorate and enjoy your evenly-baked, delicious treats

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS:

Hand wash in warm, soapy water or turn liners inside out and place on the top rack of the dishwasher.
Once the liners are dry, stack and store them in your handy, transparent storage container.

Turning Over a Loose Leaf

It’s cold now, and the go-to caffeinated hot drink for college students is, of course, coffee. However, too many students ignore the bean-based beverage’s leafy rival: tea.

Some people have the perception that brewing loose-leaf tea is somehow complicated and expensive, requiring esoteric materials and herbal expertise. In fact, it’s remarkably easy and cheap. All you need to brew loose-leaf tea is hot water, a tea kettle or infuser and the tea itself.

Most people first encounter tea through the Lipton bag, a satanic symbol if there ever was one. There are a few good tea bags out there; Lipton does not make any of them. The problem with tea bags is that they’re filled with broken tea leaves, and when tea leaves break, they lose most of their essential oils and aromas. When steeped, broken tea leaves release more tannins, a type of molecule that tastes bitter. Because of this, bagged teas often misrepresent the flavor of full teas, and only with loose-leaf tea can you brew full tea leaves. In fact, bagged tea is usually made from the dust and fannings from tea leaves. In other words: the garbage. If you’re drinking Lipton, you’re literally drinking garbage juice.

Gluten Free Quinoa Cornbread Muffins with Black Beans, Arugula and Parmesan

We all love a freshly baked cornbread straight from the oven. All the more if it's topped with generous chunks of spicy jalapeno and a warm pat of melting butter (who doesn't right?). Lately, visions of plump juicy black beans tossed into the mix is just something that's hard to let pass by, most especially if it's making all the rave in almost every baking sites there is.

Thinking about these perky fiber-rich fellows dotting the muffin tops doesn't leave little to the imagination. We all have to act out these kinds of fantasies. Think about all those mouthwatering goodness dipping below the surface and some dancing on top. How can we ever say "No" to that? Baked quinoas taste so good it's like discovering a couple of long lost family members with a ready and steady gut for all things baked in sheer mouthwatering pleasure.
